Google AdSense is how we monetize our blogs at Cassus Media, and it’s how millions of other bloggers do the same. In fact, if you have a blog, you should absolutely have your own blog monetized – most people are used to seeing ads, so why wouldn’t you? It’s free!

Below, we’ll talk about how you can set up your AdSense to support your blog with ads, and maybe make a few bucks on the side.

Signing Up For AdSense

To begin, visit the AdSense website and click “SIGN IN”. You must have a Google email to set up an AdSense account.

The process isn’t exactly instant – Google manually approves every website for AdSense, but once you have one account approved, you can put your ads on every single website you own. Some bloggers run multiple blogs at once and monetize them from the same account!

Once you’re approved, your screen will look like this:

Next, you’ll want to click “Payments” in the bottom left-hand side of your screen, and set up your payment information so Google can pay you. The minimum threshold is $10.00, and your payments must be transferred directly to a checking or savings account of your choice. Make no mistake, Google is writing this off on their taxes.

Creating Your Ads

When you click “Ads” on the left-hand side, you’ll be taken to this screen:

The best thing you can do is set up Auto Ads, which alternate the ad types on your blog to best match the things your users have been tracked as being interested in. For instance, if Google detects a user was recently shopping for microphones, they might see an ad for a microphone in the sidebar of your blog. They click it, and you make a little money. Brilliant!

Connect Your WordPress Site To AdSense

There are a number of plugins for AdSense that you can upload to your WordPress site. Our plugin of choice is WP Simple AdSense Insertion, and it will automatically add AdSense advertisements to each blog so you don’t have to do it manually. Just focus on writing!

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you click “Sites” on the left-hand side menu, and click “ADD SITE” button to add your website to AdSense. This way, any revenue from ads will communicate via the code installed on your website, and relay that information to your AdSense account.

Mobile Ads

Lastly, to make sure that anyone reading your blog gets the best ad experience by clicking “Optimization”, “Opportunities”, and click the radio button that says, “Optimize 100% of mobile page views RECOMMENDED”. This will ensure that your smartphone readers aren’t getting some long, obnoxious vertical banner ad below the article.

Google is always trying to make as much money from its advertisers as possible, and give affiliates like you the opportunity to cash in a little. Take advantage of it – many bloggers can make a full-time living from their blogs, and you can too!
